Germany’s implementation of the EU AI Act is taking shape around a new supervisory architecture, with the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) playing a central role. For organizations deploying or providing AI systems, understanding how this framework will work in practice is becoming increasingly important.

This session provides an overview of Germany’s emerging AI governance and supervision model, including the role of the Bundesnetzagentur, the cooperation between market surveillance authorities and data protection authorities, and the key points where AI Act and GDPR oversight may intersect. It will also highlight recent developments at EU level and what they may mean for the practical application of the AI Act in Germany.
