DPOs are expected to act independently — but what does that mean when they are embedded in the organization they oversee? Budget ownership, personnel management, executive appointments and operational privacy work can all create difficult questions about where legitimate involvement ends and a conflict of interest begins.
In this interactive workshop, participants will choose between realistic scenarios and discuss how different situations could be resolved while preserving the independence and effectiveness of the DPO role. Together, we will explore the practical tensions DPOs face when balancing governance responsibilities, organizational realities and potential personal accountability.
