Digital Sovereignty in Practice: What European Cloud Standards Actually Deliver

Format: Keynote · Required preknowledge: Beginner · Room: EG07
Time: TBD
Topics: Data Protection & Privacy, Cybersecurity, AI Governance

Data sovereignty as a requirement for data processing and data storage is a crucial strategic goal for data controllers. Being able to continue working with their data even when the standard (US) cloud infrastructures are, for technical, cyber incident or any other reason, not available is a key pillar of business continuity and cyber resilience concepts.

We will discuss where data sovereignty is a part of legal compliance with GDPR, CRA, NIS2 and other laws and what regulatory cloud standards such as SecNumCloud or BSI C5 provide as guidelines on how to achieve this goal. An experienced data lawyer, Dr. Matthias Orthwein (SKW Schwarz), will present impulse ideas and practical experiences from his consulting practice. Participants will be invited to exchange their views in an informed discussion.
