Advanced Privacy-Enhancing Technologies (PETs) such as Differential Privacy and Homomorphic Encryption have seen remarkable progress in recent years, offering new ways to protect sensitive data while enabling valuable data sharing and analysis. Yet despite their promise, adoption in practice remains limited.
This session offers insights into why PETs still struggle to transition from research into widespread industry use. Drawing on years of practice-oriented research, it examines the technical, legal, and business dimensions of this challenge, highlighting key barriers to practical PET adoption, as well as potential approaches to overcoming them.
Looking ahead, the session explores how broader PET adoption can create value for organizations, what it will take to realize that value, and how the privacy community can help turn the potential of PETs into meaningful real-world impact.
