Making Sense of Data Act Access Rights Across Europe

Format: Panel · Required preknowledge: Intermediate · Room: EG03
Time: 10:35–11:15
Topics: Data Protection & Privacy

The Data Act introduces a new generation of data access rights across the European Union, giving users, third parties and, in certain cases, public sector bodies the ability to request access to data generated in the context of connected products and related services. In practice, however, exercising and responding to these access rights is likely to prove far more complex than the text of the Regulation suggests, and organisations across Europe are already facing significant uncertainty on how to prepare.

This session will focus specifically on data access under the Data Act and on the concrete situations that data holders, users and third parties are likely to encounter in practice. The discussion will cover the different types of access scenarios enabled by the Regulation, the recurring points of friction, and the practical steps organisations can take to prepare for and respond to access requests. The aim is to leave participants with a clearer map of the access-related issues to anticipate and with concrete ideas on how to prepare their organisations for the practical reality of Data Act access rights in Europe.
