AI agents are entering European workplaces, automating tasks, routing workflows, and sometimes acting across systems on behalf of employees. Even at this early stage, they raise important questions for data protection practitioners that existing frameworks do not fully address. How should data minimisation apply when systems are designed to connect information across silos? Who is accountable when agents take actions on someone’s behalf? And are familiar governance tools such as DPIAs, processor agreements, and access controls sufficient for systems that not only process data, but also initiate actions? The panel will also examine the other side of the picture: how AI agents can support privacy and compliance teams in working more effectively at scale, illustrated through practical examples. Bringing together legal, policy, and technology perspectives, the session will move beyond theory and explore workable governance models for a workplace in which agentic AI is steadily becoming part of everyday operations.
