Law enforcement requests can look straightforward: an authority asks for data, the company provides it. In practice, each request raises difficult questions. Is the requester legitimate? What legal authority supports the request? Is the company permitted or required to disclose the data? And how much information is actually covered? And what do you need to keep in mind from a data protection perspective?
In this interactive session, we follow different realistic scenarios involving police, public prosecutors and specialised authorities in Germany. Combining external counsel and in-house perspectives, the speakers will explore how legal requirements translate into operational decisions: verifying authorities, assessing legal bases, scoping data, applying data minimisation, and handling urgent or overly broad requests.
Participants will leave with a practical framework for moving from request to decision and for cooperating with authorities without turning urgency into unnecessary and unlawful disclosure.
