When AI Goes Wrong: What Actually Counts as an AI Incident?

Format: Panel · Required preknowledge: Intermediate · Room: EG03
Time: 14:20–15:00
Topics: Data Protection & Privacy, Cybersecurity, AI Governance

As AI becomes embedded in business processes and products, organisations are increasingly facing a new challenge: when something goes wrong, it may not fit neatly into existing incident categories. A flawed output, biased result, unexpected autonomous action, data leakage or model failure can trigger privacy, security, compliance or operational concerns — sometimes at the same time.

This session explores how organisations can recognise and classify AI-related incidents, distinguish them from traditional data breaches or security events, and determine which existing response processes should apply. It will examine where established frameworks are sufficient, where gaps remain, and what practical steps organisations can take to prepare for an increasingly complex AI incident landscape.
